Ducting Sideview

TDWG Systems Ducting

For secondary applications in which space is not an important consideration, the TDWG ducting can be extended and enlarged to produce even more of a ram effect, thereby speeding up the wind velocity and directing it onto the rotor area where it will have the most positive effect. This ducting can be made of fiberglass, carbon fiber, or recycled plastic, and can be cast, blown on as chopped fibers, or laid up by hand.

WindAge TDWG On A Platter

For secondary applications such as hi-rise building rooftops, airports, and existing wind farms, the basic traffic-specific rotor-generator assembly can still be used; this approach makes manufacturing of the basic unit more cost effective. In these applications, the TDWG unit is mounted on a rotating platter that employs a vane at the rear to keep it facing into the ambient wind. It also uses a slip ring, working over 360 degrees of arc, to transmit the electricity produced. To the maximum extent, these platter-based versions will also employ magnetic bearings.

Recycle

HEH Recycling Plant

Third World countries have large problems with collecting and reusing plastic trash because they often do not have government-funded trash collectors, or landfills. The Emissions-Free Plastic Repurposing Plant herein described is specifically designed to be shipped to Third World countries in standard containers, to be set up quickly, and operate with no smoke, fumes, or sound emissions. To enable this minimal carbon footprint, it employs a combination of novel energy “prime movers”: • conventional photovoltaic solar panels • concave solar collector mirrors • a concentrating solar tower that uses liquid salt at 1100-1500 degrees F • multiple-human treadmills that power plastic shredders and a range of auxiliary devices found in typical plastic reprocessing plants such as label removers, sanitizers, and tumble dryers

Applications

Existing wind farms, rooftops, and windy open spaces are the WindAge TDWG System Applications.

Airport Platters

Airports

Since the land near airport runways has been cleared of trees, it provides much potential for capturing the ambient wind. TDWGs on platters can be installed near the runways, and can also be mounted behind engine run-up areas where maintenance personnel test jet engines before flight. These tests produce high-speed air which is otherwise wasted.

Windmills

Wind Farms

Platter-mounted TDWGs can augment the output of a conventional wind farm. Access to the larger units is not compromised, and the electrical tie-ins to the grid already exist, thereby minimizing the need for new wiring. Farmers can graze cattle on this acreage, and the cattle can find shade under the platters. Here the basic rotor assembly is attached to an elongated acoustic horn, which funnels the incoming air in a similar fashion to the traffic application. In this manner an average ground wind speed of 12 MPH can be boosted to 18 MPH or more, and produce significantly more electricity. The wind is both accelerated and directed to the most efficient section of the moving vanes. The rotor assembly is mounted to a slightly elevated platter, which pivots on a radial bearing and slip ring. This bearing, in conjunction with the "flag," enables the unit to turn into the prevailing wind.

Building Platters

High-Rise Buildings

Several ducted, platter-mounted TDWG assemblies can populate the rooftop of a typical metropolitan high-rise building, capturing the higher wind speeds at higher elevations. In addition to being less obtrusive than propeller-style wind generators, these generators' intakes are screened and thus prevent the ingress of misguided birds. These generators provide emergency electricity during brownouts and blackouts, and supplement the building’s electrical system in normal conditions.

Future Ideas

WindAge, LLC is committed to continuous research. From this point, incremental efficiency improvements can still be had, even though a light rotor combined with magnetic bearings is already quite efficient.
